Purpose:

This wiki has been designed to define and connect diversity and differentiation of instruction. It shares information about what planning, preparing, and implementing differentiation lessons might look like in a classroom. Finally, this site includes possible ways to integrate technology.

What is DIVERSITY?

Diversity refers the varied (diverse) backgrounds, experiences, interests, learning styles and capabilities that students bring to the classroom.

What is DIFFERENTIATED INSTRUCTION?
Differentiated instruction occurs when teachers adapt lessons to meet the diverse needs of their students to increase the likelihood of success for all. It is critical that the students are still learning the same content but through methods that meet their individual needs.

Are diversity and differentiated instruction the same?
Diversity and differentiated instruction are not the same, but they are interrelated. Differentiating instruction is something teachers do as a result of the diversity that our students bring into the classroom.
